Concord Blue
LEADING THERMOLYSIS-BASED, WASTE TO ENERGY TECHNOLOGY
TECHNOLOGY FOR THE NEXT GENERATION AVAILABLE TODAY
Concord Blue was founded in 2002 and has developed a turnkey, steam thermolysis-based waste reforming system – the Concord Blue Reformer© (CBR©). Due to its ability to accept a wide range of input materials, sustainability, high efficiency as well as the ability to produce wide range of high demand output products, the CBR© is regarded as the world’s most advanced waste reforming technology.
Our company is also a developer of waste-to-hydrogen (W2H2) and waste-to-energy (W2E) projects, in which we use our proprietary, patented and industry-leading technology to locally convert almost any form of waste into a variety of renewable fuels including hydrogen, syngas, electricity, heat and biofuels. The conversion process utilized by our technology is predominantly pollutant-free.
Unlike other existing processes for generating energy from waste, Concord Blue uses steam thermolysis to ensure waste is efficiently converted into a hydrogen-rich, syngas of the highest quality. This is achieved by deploying a system that relies on heat transfer from carrier materials (ceramic beads) instead of through incineration and therefore avoids a number of negative consequences, which result from burning waste. Concord Blue operates worldwide and has offices in the USA, Germany, India and Taiwan.
Concord Blue – Germany
OUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE ENERGY TRANSITION ACROSS EUROPE
Concord Blue has adopted Germany as our European hub locating our headquarters in Düsseldorf. We also operate another branch in Herten, Germany, which will soon produce hydrogen commercially using our proprietary CBR© process technology.
We see tremendous potential in Germany to begin the roll out of our CBR© technology throughout Europe and thus make our contribution to the European Union’s energy transition initiatives. This first phase has begun with the current development of five CBR© waste to hydrogen facilities in Northwest Germany to produce CO2-free, climate neutral hydrogen with best-in-class efficiency.
CBR© plant in Herten
The ground of the former coal mining area “Zeche Ewald” in Herten is an especially notable location for our first commercial Concord Blue Reformer© in Germany. Where once this city was known for mining coal, which is one of the world’s dirtiest sources of energy, the hydrogen city of Herten is now at the forefront leading the transition away from fossil fuels towards green hydrogen—the energy source of tomorrow and key pillar in the IEA’s Net Zero Emissions by 2050 initiative. Concord Blue is proud to be part of this project with the deployment of our CBR© W2H2 technology.
Hydrogen – Already a tradition in Herten
With the building of a new Concord Blue CBR© Waste to Hydrogen facility, Concord Blue is continuing a tradition that began in 2002. By way of our technology and engineering headquarters located in Herten, we are laying the foundations for our first commercial W2H2 project in Germany and are finally putting a long-cherished promise into practice.
Figures and data on the Herten Waste to Hydrogen project
- The CBR© waste to hydrogen facility will process 28,000 tons of biomass and waste per year
- The reformer will produce 2,624 tons of CO2-free hydrogen annually
- This represents approximately 262 million emission-free kilometers by car
- Long-term supply contracts with local waste companies have already been executed
- On-site hydrogen filling station is now operational
- Facility will supply hydrogen filling stations in Duisburg, Dortmund, Essen and Mülheim a. d. Ruhr
